The Five Forks branch library is a new building in the Greenville County Library system located in an area abundant with children and families. MSS was responsible for the project’s interior design and to create active learning spaces for youth and teens. The curriculum for the library design and programming is based on Reggio Emilia and PLA’s “Every Child Ready to Read” initiative. The library is a place for various learning styles that suit each user’s needs and learning in equal parts traditional, imaginative, and play. The Teen area provides an inviting place for group collaboration, encourages volunteerism, and creative endeavors. The Library supports and inspires Teens through Connected Learning by building upon the Search Institute’s “40 Developmental Assets for Adolescents” and the YOUmedia Lab.
This is the first library I’ve ever been to that was truly designed for the family experience. We all have a place to enjoy our own interests, and also have plenty of places to play, read, and create as a family.
